I. Lesson Plans & Payment
a. Lessons can be contracted by the three following methods:
i. PLAN 1 – Lessons are scheduled through the instructor and provided in the instructors’ home.
ii. PLAN 2 – Lessons are scheduled through the instructor and provided off-site at a location determined by instructor and student.
iii. PLAN 3 – Lessons are scheduled through the registrar at Drama Learning Center and provided at 9130 Red Branch Road, Columbia, MD 21045. Call 410-997-9DLC (410-997-9352)
b. Payment can be tendered by the following two methods:
i. Cash
ii. Personal Check
iii. SPECIAL NOTE: There is a $25 charge for any returned check. In the unfortunate event that a check bounces, only cash payment will be permitted in the future.
iv. Payment is due at the time of your lesson unless other arrangements have been made in writing ahead of time.
II. Scheduling & Cancellations
a. Students make the most progress when they practice and study regularly. First preference in scheduling will go to recurring students. Those who schedule lessons a la carte or as needed will be fit into the studio calendar when time allows.
b. The instructor will make every effort to schedule lessons without conflict. When a conflict is unavoidable and the instructor must cancel, the student will be given at least 24 hour notice and the lesson will be made up in a timely manner.
c. If the student needs to cancel or reschedule a lesson due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, 24 hour notice by phone must be given in order for the lesson to be made up.
d. In the event that a student cancels and 24 hours’ notice has not been provided, payment is still due for the missed lesson (barring emergencies) and the student forfeits the opportunity to make up the lesson. Payment for the missed lesson is due at the beginning of the next scheduled lesson.
e. Emergencies that require the student to cancel within 24 hours are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but do not include: “I forgot,” “I scheduled something else,” or “I’m too busy this week.”
III. Preparation Standards and Required Materials
a. Students are expected to come to lessons prepared. Required materials include a binder or notebook, assigned music, pencil, blank paper, water and recording device.
b. A large part of regular voice lessons include equipping students with the tools necessary to succeed in advanced voice study. Those tools include (but are not limited to) building a library of sheet music and recordings that will be of use to the student for years to come. The instructor will provide a list of suggested tools to students and discuss which resources students will benefit from the most throughout the study period.
c. All music is required to be kept in an organized fashion. Copies of music as well as notes from lessons and practice should be kept neatly in a 3-ring binder. Based on the student’s personal goals, a repertoire list and resume may also be maintained.
IV. Alternate Miscellaneous Business
a. Punctuality
i. The student should be ready to start lessons on time. In the event that the instructor does not start the lesson on time, missed time will be made up in full.
ii. In the event that the lesson does not start on time as a result of the student, missed time will only be made up at the discretion of the instructor based on schedule and circumstance.
iii. If the student has chronic issues being punctual, you may forfeit your opportunity to have missed time made up.
b. Recording Lessons
i. The student is expected to record lessons both to self-assess vocal progress and remember warm ups and exercises that are taught in lessons.
ii. The student should wait at least a day after the lesson before listening to the recording, but is expected to then listen throughout the week to reinforce practice time.
c. Referrals
i. My studio thrives on word-of-mouth. The student will receive one free lesson for each individual referred that contracts four or more lessons from the instructor.
ii. Students my redeem free lessons only after the referred individual has completed four scheduled lessons.
